Fellowship in Myopia Management

Introduction

The Fellowship in Myopia Management at The Sankara Nethralaya Academy is a comprehensive 6-month program designed to develop optometrists with specialized skills in evidence-based myopia prevention, control, and management. The program combines intensive campus-based foundation training with supervised clinical practice and case-based learning.

The fellowship provides structured training in myopia assessment, advanced diagnostics, optical and contact lens-based interventions, clinical decision-making, and individualized myopia-management strategies.

Upon Completion, You Will Be Able To:

  • Understand the epidemiology, risk factors, pathogenesis, and mechanisms of myopia
  • Conduct comprehensive and complex refractive assessments
  • Differentiate stable from progressive myopia and assess the rate of progression
  • Identify and appropriately refer cases of pathological myopia
  • Design and monitor individualized myopia-control treatment plans
  • Gain hands-on experience with advanced diagnostic instruments including biometry, corneal topography, and fundus imaging
  • Apply contact lens-based myopia-control principles, including specialty lenses and orthokeratology
  • Interpret diagnostic imaging relevant to myopia management
  • Counsel children and parents effectively regarding myopia prevention and management
  • Critically appraise current evidence and apply evidence-based myopia management in clinical practice
Fellowship in Contact Lens

Course Details

Eligibility: Bachelor's Degree in Optometry (B.Optom); basic familiarity with refraction, contact lens fitting, and ophthalmic diagnostics preferred.

Number of Seats: 2–4 trainees per batch, subject to preceptor availability.

Duration: 6 months — 2 months of intensive campus-based foundation training followed by 4 months of supervised/independent clinical practice.

Frequency: Twice a year — January & July.
