Introduction

The vast majority of patients with low vision can be helped to function at a higher level with the use of low vision devices. Management of a Low-vision patient does not end with prescribing Low vision device alone. It involves a coordinated effort on the part of the practitioner, patient and his / her family members to recognize the patient’s limitations, and help him / her choose devices that will satisfy the patient’s visual needs. It is also a multi-disciplinary approach where a low-vision practitioner has to work in tandem with other professionals like Ophthalmologists and Dispensing Opticians.

Course Objective:

  • To give the Optometrist a thorough understanding of the Basics of Low vision
  • To assess the visual demands of Low vision
  • To examine the Low vision patient and prescribe appropriate Low Vision device for Distance and Near
  • To assist in counseling and rehabilitating the Low Vision patient

Course Details

Eligibility:Undergraduate Degree in Optometry with at least 1 year of experience in Optometric practice

Number of Seats: 6 per year

Duration: 6 months (Full-time with regular clinical postings in Low Vision care clinics at SN and its branch hospitals in Chennai)

Course Fee: Indian Students: INR 60,000/- + 18% GST for 6 months, International Students: USD 1200

Frequency: Twice a year (January and July)
