Medical Laboratory Department was established in 2013 at our TSNA campus, Ayanambakkam. From December 2019, TSNA shifted to its own premises at Dr. V.G. Appukutty Campus, St.Thomas Mount, This block is exclusively dedicated to students of Medical Laboratory Technology (UG and PG) for training them hands-on with basic and advanced techniques in the areas of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Haematology. As a part of their curriculum, the students are posted in clinical laboratories for exposure to actual clinical lab set up. In addition, students are encouraged to participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programs, seminars, workshops, blood donation camps, certificate courses and science expos. Successful candidates are placed in hospitals and private labs and Educational institutes in the city and overseas as laboratory technologists, Lab scientists & Clinical Instructors. The course also enables them to set up collection centres and diagnostic labs as proprietorship models. |
Medical laboratory technologists serve as a member of the healthcare team, performing laboratory test related to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. They work in an interesting and dynamic environment using high-tech instruments to analyse samples and generate information with accuracy and quality control which assists the healthcare professionals. There is always a high demand for trained lab professionals and with the advent of accreditation to laboratories the need for competent, skilled medical laboratory technicians is high and is expected to increase significantly in the coming years. To enable this, TSNA offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc & M.Sc MLT) affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai. |
